These are a few of my favorite things

Summer 2016

I just was oing through the camera roll on my phone and grabbed a few pictures that just delight me.  These are the everyday things right now.  I don't have to think "someday I'll miss these times." I already feel that way.  I have slowing down lately, trying to let the dishes and toys stay were they are and read with the kids, put puzzles together, play in the sandbox, or dance in the front room.  Sometimes I get distracted with laundry and dinner (those things do have their place) but I won't care if they were done in a year (or a month or even a week).  And so I stop sometimes and watch (and/or take a picture) to remember these times and love them again.

Oliver LOVES the dishwasher.  L-O-V-E-S it!  He's getting to the point that he falls on the ground and cries it gets closed (which is often the only option we have when he is determined to "help" with the plates and glass bowls).

Kate and Daniel do this any time they can get an empty (or make an empty) laundry basket.  They call themselves "rolly pollys" when they have the baskets on.  They laugh in pure enjoyment as they run around the couches, into the front entry, back into the kitchen, and around the couches again.  They've come up with other things to do with the baskets like trap Oliver in them (he does think its fun... for a minute), or if there are handles on the basket they put their legs through them or make them into stirrups and walk around hunched over because they can't stand up straight.  I'm sure there will be a crash or bonk at some point, but until then I get a kick out of these little rolly pollys.

Balloons.  They can last for a few days and are surprisingly versatile.  I'm hesitant to have them around to much because they are a choking hazard for the likes of Oliver Mac (that's what you get for being married to a pediatrician).  So we usually only have one for each kid.  That way we can keep track of them and when one breaks it is usually reported with a sad face and all the pieces in hand as evidence.  On this day Daniel had been going for a solid 30 minutes playing with his yellow balloon, mostly pulling it's tale and making it fly (or at least making a popping sound) as well as hitting it with a variety of toys and rackets.  Somehow he got the balloon up to the ceiling where it stuck.  He was quite confused as it didn't come down.  It stayed there for about an hour.  We all cheered when it finally floated down.

Kate and Daniel sometimes watch a Living Scriptures on Sunday mornings while I do their hair.  As I was walking over to get started I watched Oliver (on his tippy toes) join the other two.  I'm kind of overwhelmed at looking at them.  They are real.  And they are really ours.  That's only half our crew, but sometimes I can't believe I'm part of this crew!  I love them all more than I can say (especially their Daddy).

Oliver took his first steps in the Dominican Republic (while he was hanging out with Grandpa C and the rest of us were all napping after our long flight).  He wasn't taking more than a step or two, but it was still exciting.  Then we we return home he discovers the red-chair-walker.  He would hold onto the back of the chair and push it.  He was able to walk all the way from kitchen to the front entry, even making the turn.  Sometimes the chair would catch on a grout line, but other than that he would cruise.  It was so fun to watch him take off.  It wasn't too much longer before he was walking more on his own, but he used his red-chair-walker for a few weeks, much to my delight.
