Kate came dancing into the house today saying she caught a humming bird. I was immediately startled to see the little bird in her hand, not alive. She showed me where she "caught" it, which was on top of the grate over a window to the basement. She said it was trying to get out. I think what she actually found was an injured hummingbird that had fallen on the grate which had died. I told her that the little bird wasn't alive anymore, which she completely disagreed with until I had her lay it down on the cement. When it just laid there she burst into tears. Sweet thing. She cried and cried, asking several times if the bird would get resurrected. I assured her that it would. We wrapped the little bird in a paper towel and found a raisin box to put it in.
We found a place in the yard where I could dig a little grave. Kate started singing, "Jesus Once Was a Little Child" as I dug the hole. She put the box in and covered it up. When she told Matt about it later that evening, she also wanted him to know that "It will be resurrected!!"
