How time flies!

Matt and I met in May of 2010 and I was introduced to Emily (age 13), Tyler (age 11), and Amy (age 9) later in the summer.  We talked about the kids often during the first weeks we dated and throughout the two months I was in Ghana.  Emily was in 7th grade and loving it, Tyler was in 5th grade and had been in mom's Hope of America show, and Amy was a cute little 3rd grader, the grade I taught.

So it seems basically impossible that next year Emily will be in high school, Tyler will be an 8th grader, and Amy will be in her last year of elementary school!!

Emily will be 15 in a few weeks so we've started taking her driving in preparation for her driver's permit.  She's been pretty excited to go and I've really enjoyed the chances I've had to have some one-on-one time with her.  She's really good at driving (thankfully).  She cruises around the PG High School parking lot making full and complete stops at the end of each row of parking spaces.  The first time I had her go out onto the road and up a few blocks to the church she white knuckled it, but did great.  I wasn't surprised.

Tyler and Amy don't look too concerned about Emily driving.  We've got a few years before either of them will be in the driver's seat.

Besides it being crazy that Emily is driving, she's looking less like a junior high student and more like a confident young woman.  Tyler has also suddenly lost his little-boy look.  He walked into the house one day and I did a double take.  I swear he grew an inch and aged a year over the weekend.  It's really not going to be long at all before he's on a mission.  I think I'll make Amy stay in elementary school for a few more years while I adjust.

Vicki, your post made happy. Emily does look very confident behind that wheel. I think she looks like her dad. And I am all for not growing up. I told Seth he could not eat his vegetables anymore because they make him big and strong, but he eats 'em anyway. Maybe Amy would be more compliant. Happy driving my friend.
