for several months now Kate has either had oatmeal with raisins or fresh fruit with me, or grandma's special mixture of brown rice and cinnamon with milk. she feeds herself very well for a little person. she has just recently preferred to eat cold cereal and toast. I usually put homemade strawberry jam on it. she usually pulls off all the little strawberries pieces, eats them first and then finishes with the toast.
I looked up from doing the dishes to see Kate on the floor chatting with Daniel. She wasn't short on words. I wish I could have been in her head and know what she was telling him. Perhaps she was telling him about chocolate-milk-Tuesday, or about the barn and little people she had been playing with, or maybe she was telling him where Grandpa Tay's stash of chocolate covered almonds is since she found it this morning. I hope there will be many, many more chats between them in the future.
This is one of my favorite parts of being a mama... to have a little one, sweet and calm, asleep in my arms. It's been a long day, lots of crying and tantrums. Not a lot of anything else got done. But now, seeing this little one, our little boy, asleep in my arms it makes the frustrations of the day quiet. Sometimes it is so easy to lose my patience. Happily, it is also easy to be reminded of the joy and importance of being a family.
Emily and I have loved the idea of celebrating our birth-month by going to a play since our first February together. So here we are at "Kiss and Tell" at the Hale Center Theater. Love this girl!
